LA's Rodeo Ban Battle Explodes!

It almost looked like they were shooting a movie, but it was all too real. Dozens of men and women on horseback and wearing sombreros confronted animal rights activists as they arrived at Los Angeles City Hall to push for a vote to ban rodeos in the city of angels. Shouting matches erupted over LA City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield's bill to ban bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling or anything that involves "physically taking down an animal, roping an animal or attempting to ride a bucking animal."
Those on horseback claimed a rodeo ban would deny them their right to express their Latino heritage. Latino animal rights activists countered that animal torture has nothing to do with their culture and noted that the almost 5 million Hispanics in the greater LA area don't wear sombreros and do not support animal abuse. PETA Latino was on hand to push for the rodeo ban and Last Chance for Animals organized a news conference attended by actress Kate Mara, among others.
