Philadelphia could be the first major metropolitan U.S. city to use electric carriages. The animal rights nonprofit Revolution Philadelphia and a pair of donors say they have a plan to usher in the use of electric carriages so that the horses can be retired. The future of horse-drawn carriages was already in limbo with the last of the horse drawn carriage stables in Philly remaining empty. Activists are calling on the city council to ban carriage horses and to make Philadelphia the first electric carriage city in the US.
