Whaaaaat? Yessiree, that is exactly what happened. Renee King-Sonnen married Tommy Sonnen, a multi-generational cattle rancher. Renee, a former country singer, liked to practice her guitar in the meadow where the herd of cows grazed. It was there that Renee had a spiritual experienced and realized the cows were her family and she was there to love and protect them, not kill and eat them. She went vegan and began a secret campaign to raise money to buy out her husband's herd and turn his ranch into a vegan farmed animal sanctuary. And, that's exactly what she did... in the heart of Texas cattle country. Not only that, she turned her husband Tommy vegan and now he is also a leading animal rights activist who helps Renee care for cows, pigs, turkeys, goats, lambs and chickens rescued from the horrors of industrialized animal agriculture. Their story is truly unique and has been made into a fabulous documentary called Rowdy Girl. Renee is also writing a book. She definitely broke the mold! You gotta meet her. So, watch this video. PS. Since this video was shot, Rowdy Girl Sanctuary has been forced to move to another part of Texas because of all the storms and floods from climate change.
