Rowdy Girl Sanctuary

Rowdy Girl Sanctuary

Renee King-Sonnen married to a generational cattle rancher. She is a former country singer who liked to practice her guitar in the meadow where her husband's herd grazed. Then, she began noticing things. The cows seemed to understand her and communicate with her... and she with them. She looked into their eyes and saw their love for their family members. Then, she saw the anguish of the mama cows as their babies were ripped from them and put in a red trailer to be taken for sale and, ultimately, slaughter. She watched the mamas run frantically along the pasture's edge, chasing the trailer that was taking their terrified and confused babies away. She lay awake in bed listening to their grief-stricken moans. Renee King-Sonnen had a moment of clarity and realized she couldn't abide by what was happening for even one more day. She went vegan and began a secret campaign to raise money to buy out her husband's herd and save the cows she had grown to love and respect and consider family.

After a battle of wills with her husband, she accomplished what, to many, seemed like an impossible mission. She did, indeed, turn her husband's cattle ranch into a vegan farmed animal sanctuary. And, she even turned her husband vegan. Today, Renee King-Sonnen and her husband Tommy Sonnen are leading animal rights activists. A movie has just been made about them called Rowdy Girl. And, she is writing a book. Their story is extraordinary. Now, meet some of the beautiful and innocent animals they have rescued from despair and death.
