Animal Rebellion was born in 2019 as a sister group to the huge climate organization Extinction Rebellion, which focuses on fossil fuels. But, the people at Animal Rebellion demanded that the climate change conversation include the massive role animal agriculture plays in destroying our climate and heating up our planet. After a long period of denial, there is now a growing acknowledgement that we need to shift to a plant-based food system if we are to effectively combat climate change. The goal is to support farmers in that transition and to re-wild freed up land, as trees absorb carbon. The more trees we have, the more we can cool the planet. So, now, these amazing activists have rebranded as Animal Rising to stress the need to focus on the massive amount of animal suffering happening today on factory farms, in slaughterhouses and in laboratories. Animal Rising's mission is to combat animal exploitation and cruelty wherever it arises, be that in a laboratory, a zoo or at a horse racing event.
