In this episode, Kale Krew's Nemanja and Tamika visit Alice & Friends vegan restaurant in the cool area of Chicago known as The Glen. Mun Wong is the owner of Alice & Friends. The dishes here are beyond extraordinary, works of art that are almost too gorgeous to eat, operative word "almost." From Korean BBQ to Miso Ramen, from Banh Mi to vegan shrimp, the recipes are filled with flavor. Appetizers, entrees and desserts are all equally extraordinary. Alice & Friends’ was founded by Alice Lee in 2001. When Alice decided to pursue her dream to move to Europe, the restaurant became a family run Loving Hut, part of a fabulous vegan chain which exists around the world. Mun Wong took over in 2016 and decided to bring back the name Alice & Friends Vegan Kitchen, on a mission to create a wonderland of flavorful vegan food out of sincere respect for all living beings and a desire to make as little impact as possible on our ecosystem. DOL SOT BI BIM BAP
Korean Rice Bowl made with broccoli, smoked tofu, mung bean sprouts, spinach, zucchini, carrot, sliced mushroom, leek, and brown rice in a hot stone bowl. Served with spicy Korean soy sauce orgochujang.
ROASTED SESAME MISO RAMEN
This umami broth is made with our house-made dashi. Served with Japanese ramen wheat noodles and topped with crispy fresh tofu skin, lightly seasoned mung bean sprouts, and buttered corn. Garnished with roasted seaweed and scallions.
BURMESE NOODLE SALAD
Hearty noodle salad with refreshing flavors and textures. Choice of Khauk Swe wheat noodles or Kya Zan rice noodles, cilantro, garlic, shredded cabbage, and carrots. Served with tamarind and lime oil dressing and garnished with fried shallots.
NOBLE BURGER
House-made burger patty (oat, brown rice, onion, and TVP*) is served with tomato, lettuce, onion, pickle, ketchup and our house-made mayo.
Choice of side salad, potato fries, or sweet potato fries. Add our house-made vegan cheese. Add bacon
WALNUT SHRIMP
Crispy battered vegan shrimp tossed in house-made creamy sauce with toasted walnuts. Served with steamed broccoli and brown rice.
BANH MI
Vietnamese-style baguette sandwich with smoked TVP* and onions, house-made pickled daikon and carrots, cucumbers, jalapeno, and cilantro.
SPAM MI
Vegan Spam Sandwich. Your taste buds will thank you for the savory flavor of vegan spam that is enhanced with our house-made slaw, tomato, lettuce, and cucumber. All drizzled with our house-made mayo.
SWEET & SOUR CAULIFLOWER
Crispy cauliflower florets are tossed in a tang and sweet sauce. Served with red and green peppers, onions, and pineapples. Choice of brown rice or quinoa.
KINGWICH
Crispy fried mushroom sandwich. Organic King Trumpet mushrooms seasoned and coated with our chef’s secret recipe. Crispy outside and so juicy on the inside. Served with tomato and our house-made slaw.
GOLDEN YUBA FRIED RICE
Stir fried brown rice with cabbage, carrots, broccoli, zucchini, and bean sprouts. lightly seasoned and served with crispy pan-fried Yuba (tofu skin) and garnished with special soy sauce and scallions.
SPICY POTATO STEW
A vegan version of traditional and nutritious Korean dish Gamjatang. Potatoes, carrots, leeks, mush-room chunks, and sliced TVP* with distinct flavors and spiciness. Served in a hot stone bowl with brown rice.
MUSHROOMS WONDERLAND
Kale and broccoli sautéed with shiitake mushroom, king oyster mushroom, bunapi mushroom, onion, and garlic. Served with quinoa and garnished with cilantro. Extra spicy with our house-made chili upon request.
TOM KA NOODLES
Traditional Thai noodle soup with a savory mild-spice coconut broth. Seasoned with lemongrass, lime juice, galangal, and kaffir lime leaves. Served with rice noodles, broccoli, carrots, baby corn, onions, mushrooms, and vegan shrimp. Garnished with cilantro.
TONKOTSU RAMEN
A rich and complex plant-based tonkotsu broth. Served with Japanese ramen wheat noodles and topped with vegan bacon, shiitake mushrooms, bok choy, buttered corn, and bean sprouts. Garnished with roasted seaweed and green onion.
