UPDATE — 2025: Adidas has ended its use of kangaroo leather. The company stopped purchasing kangaroo leather in 2024 and confirmed in 2025 that it would end production of products containing the material. The change followed years of pressure from animal advocates, including protests targeting Adidas stores and the company’s leadership. The original video and description below document the campaign while advocates were still calling on Adidas to end its use of kangaroo skins.
Oscar-nominated actor James Cromwell, who stars in the hit TV series Succession and is famous for Babe and many other films, has put his name and his fame out there in the ongoing struggle to get shoe brands to stop using kangaroo leather. Nike and Puma have already announced they will stop using kangaroo leather in the wake of widespread and global protests over the practice. Activists from TheirTurn, the Center for a Humane Economy and NYClass have now set their sights on Adidas, a holdout brand that has not yet announced it will stop having kangaroos killed for shoes. Dramatic in-store protests have been at the center of this battle, especially inside Manhattan flagship stores. We invite reps from Adidas and another industry shoe brand on to respond to the complaints of Mr. Cromwell and the other animal advocates.
