The shooting of barred owls has begun under a federal strategy that could kill approximately 450,000 birds over 30 years. Officials say the program is necessary to save the northern spotted owl from extinction. Environmental advocate, writer and photographer Jack Gescheidt joins host Lindsey Baker to examine the controversy, the role of habitat destruction, and why opponents are challenging the killing.
Gescheidt, founder of the TreeSpirit Project, also discusses the plight of Tule elk at Point Reyes and shares ways viewers can speak up for wildlife. Learn more and take action at IDAUSA.org/OWLS, IDAUSA.org/elk, and www.treespiritproject.com. Action Hour podcast is hosted by Lindsey Baker.
