Meet three women, all members of the fast-growing UK group Animal Rising, who rescued three lambs destined for slaughter by going into a farm on the Sandringham estate of King Charles of England and taking them out. This made global news! While some news publications reported it as a theft, others reported it as a rescue, while putting the word "rescue" in quotes. But, for the mainstream media, that's progress. The women explain that they are willing to go to trial in order to have a jury face the question of whether saving these lives is the morally correct thing to do. By, extension, they are asking society in general if slaughtering more than 80 billion land animals every year for food is the morally correct thing to do. Of course, the 3 women do not consume any animal products and seem to be doing just fine health wise. So are millions of other vegans around the world. Indeed, The China Study, and other examinations of the connection between diet and health, show that a plant-based diet is the optimal diet for overall health, disease prevention and longevity. So, why are we killing all these animals? Animal Rising puts these questions in our face with their direct, but nonviolent, actions.
The three women -- identified in the news as Rosa, Rose and Sarah -- posed for photos outside the royal castle holding signs. One read, "I rescued the king's sheep." Then, they turned themselves into Windsor police. Animal Rising released video of the lamb rescue and took to Twitter/X saying, "They did this because rescuing animals from harm is the right thing to do. These women have acted out of compassion and they stand by the belief that a jury of ordinary people will take the side of care and freedom. This is how we fix our broken relationship with animals."
