A DYING SEA - The Disaster of the Sea of Marmara.
This film feels like a thriller, but it is all too real and offers a warning about what mankind is doing to its seas and oceans. During a visit with the "Marine Life Conservation Society" divers find a ghost net on their very first dive. Unfortunately, this is not the worst thing they find in the Sea of Marmara.
When filmmaker Florian Seltmann heard about the tragedy in the Sea of Marmara, he was lucky to partner with World of Waves at the right moment to support the Marine Life Conservation Society. Together, they do what they can in a never-ending fight against man-made environmental pollution that threatens to destroy even an entire sea.
The trip to Egypt a few months later opened his mind even more and made him realize that this catastrophe will occur in many seas and perhaps in the distant future also in the oceans as well. Since the Sea of Marmara is not that big, he could observe the changes quite quickly. It was a kind of foretaste of what will also happen to seas like the Mediterranean.
Florian Seltmann was born in 1996 near Berlin. At age 15, he discovered his passion for photography and videography. Since then, he's been striving to convey feelings through his films and focus on films that can make the world a better place and open a different perspective. Says Seltmann, "I am constantly looking for new ways to challenge myself. When I was younger, I was more interested in fancy film productions, but, now, I have a strong desire to create meaningful films. My view of the ocean changed significantly when I got my first diving certification, and it has become even more important to me to protect it. In my opinion, the world needs to improve in terms of equality and our sense of nature. If you share my beliefs, please reach out to me. Perhaps we can find a way to collaborate."
