In a shocking and heart-wrenching rescue operation, The Duck Sanctuary was contacted and offered a surrender of 60 ducklings that were about to be disposed of in the trash. Upon initial questioning, they stated that they had around 90 ducklings, of which 30 already had been taken by someone. The true extent of the horror unfolded when the woman later admitted she had originally possessed 1,000 unhatched ducklings intended for the production of Balut—“a delicacy” in some cultures where fertilized eggs are boiled alive and consumed whole, including the feathers. But the shipment got delayed and the hatchling eggs were unable to be sold. After contacting the sanctuary the woman said they must wait 3 days before she would release them. This left hundreds of rapidly dying ducklings without food, water, or proper shelter for three agonizing days, leading to the death of at least 350-400 ducklings before rescuers could intervene. The surviving ducklings are now receiving care, though many continue to die at an alarming rate. Activists are urgently needed to raise donations and awareness. We need to secure funding for the sanctuary that has stepped up in this time of crisis. Please spread the word on social media and donate. The sanctuary has indicated that any amount is very helpful and greatly appreciated. If you can volunteer to help care for the ducks at the sanctuary or can foster ducks, contact Howie Berkowitz at www.theducksantuary.com Action Hour podcast is hosted by Lindsey Baker for the UnchainedTV streaming network.
