They’re Trying to Kill Us is a gripping, fast-paced documentary about how food injustice disproportionately harms communities of color. Co-written, directed, and produced by John Lewis and Keegan Kuhn, it follows Lewis’s journey across the U.S. as he investigates how systemic racism, poverty, and institutional corruption fuel chronic disease in Black and Indigenous communities.
The film follows John as the protagonist and narrator because of his unique experience being adopted at birth from his drug addicted birth mother, growing up as an overweight kid in the violence of Ferguson, to becoming a prominent health and wellness advocate promoting compassion.

The film is executive produced by NBA star Chris Paul and music icon Billie Eilish—both vocal vegan advocates—who amplify its message on food equity and public health
