It’s Day 14 in the glacially slow prosecution of Direct Action Everywhere animal cruelty investigator Zoe Rosenberg for rescuing 4 chickens from a slaughterhouse in Sonoma County, California. The case is now known globally as the “Chicken Rescue” trial in mainstream media, a victory in itself for animal rights.
Observers say the prosecution’s case is getting a little strange. Defendant Zoe Rosenberg, now 23, says prosecutors want to introduce social media posts she made back when she was a tween, like 14 years old. Outside of the jury’s presence, the prosecutor dramatically read Zoe’s social media posts with such a flair as to imply these posts were somehow threatening,
according to Zoe. In a just published social media post, Zoe seemed to find the whole performance bizarre and slightly humorous. Except that her life is kind of on the line. Zoe faces almost half a decade behind bars and suffers from a lifelong medical issue that could make doing hard time a life-or-death issue. She is charged with felony conspiracy and 3 misdemeanors.
The company in question is invited on any time to respond. It denies all animal cruelty allegations calling Rosenberg and DxE extremists.
Now, let’s get the very latest as UnchainedTV’s Jane Velez-Mitchell hosts a panel of attorneys and other experts with a live report from the courthouse itself with reporter Matthew Zirbel.
