The Plant Based Treaty and West Hollywood have joined forces to bring us Food Day in West Hollywood as part of LA Climate Week 2025. A highlight was this extraordinary panel entitled: "Planting the Seeds of Change, Reimagining Local Food Policy." One key revelation? LA County is already taking serious steps to move towards a more plant-based food system to combat climate change. The Mayor of West Hollywood, Chelsea Byers, also spoke of how she was inspired to get her uber-progressive city to go plant based by default. What does that mean? Watch and find out. This panel was moderated by Plant Based Treaty's City Campaigner Samantha Lao and featured Mayor Byers, Ali Frazzini who is the Policy Director of the LA County Chief Sustainability Office, Claudia Lifton-Schwerner who is Mercy for Animals' State Policy Advisor, Juli Schulz who is Vice President of Strategy and Programs at the Better Food Foundation and Plant Based Treaty's City Campaigner Ellen Dent. The keynote speaker leading into the panel, Emily Ellison, is the Associate Policy Deputy with the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. She laid out just how serious America's most populous county is about making its massive food procurement and distribution system healthier and more sustainable by incorporating more plant-based foods. This event and the entire day was made possible by a slew of supporting organizations and companies including UnchainedTV, Better Food Foundation, In Defense of Animals, World Animal Protection, New Roots Institute, SoCal Veg Fest, Beyond Meat, Just Egg, Plant Power Fast Food, Vegan Printers, Au Lac restaurant, Resilient Palisades, Dash Board Earth and LA Bakers Bench. They say it takes a village and this group of passionate changemakers really came together to establish a blueprint for a much more sustainable world. Every government official in every city across the U.S. should watch this. To learn more and get involved, visit: https://plantbasedtreaty.org/
