Ajay Banga is the new World Bank leader. Climate activists call on him to stop funding animal ag!
Raised in India, Banga is a former chief executive of Mastercard. This Biden administration pick will, according to the New York Times, "...bring deep experience with developing economies and financial expertise to a global institution facing a critical moment of transition." The NYT said part of his mandate is to combat climate change. The best thing any institution can do to combat climate change is to stop funding animal agriculture, specifically the factory farming of chickens, cows, pigs, turkeys, lambs, goats, etc. It's also crucial to stop funding the commodity crops that feed the 80+ billion animals killed for food yearly. Climate activists call on the World Bank and its new leader to fund fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains and legumes that can be fed directly to humans.
According to an article in the New York Times, heavy meat eaters can reduce their emissions footprint by 75% by switching to the plant-based diet. According to an article in USA Today, meat only provides 18% of calories but is responsible for 83% of agricultural land use and 71% of global deforestation.

The group describes itself this way: "We lead resistance to new agribusiness projects in development banks’ pipelines. We educate on why industrial animal agriculture is not compatible with Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement, and the banks’ own policies. We engage banks to urge them to exclude finance of factory farming as part of their global accountability, climate and biodiversity commitments."
