#UnchainedTV is LIVE at the courthouse as Direct Action Everywhere co-founder and attorney Wayne Hsiung faces sentencing in the historic Sonoma County, California Open Rescue trial involving mass actions to rescue suffering chickens and ducks from 2 animal factories about 5 years ago. Hsiung was found guilty of two counts of misdemeanor trespass and one count of felony conspiracy to trespass and faces up to 3.5 years in prison.
Judge Laura Passaglia, a former prosecutor, drew condemnation from the ACLU for gagging Hsiung from speaking to the media. She also blocked him from showing most of the videos depicting animals suffering and dead at the animal factories in question, preventing him from explaining to the jury the motive for his actions. Hsiung plans to appeal and hopes an appellate victory could establish case law that opens the legal door to rescuing suffering factory animals.
Our expert panel includes: Francisco Guerreiro, a European Parliament Member who has publicly condemned Hsiung’s conviction, Maryam Kamali at the courthouse, Renee King-Sonnen of the Rowdy Girl Sanctuary, Ellen Dent of Animal Alliance Network, UnchainedTV hosts Michelle Celestino, Lindsey Baker, Paige Parsons Roache and Jane Velez-Mitchell.
