UnchainedTV has been celebrating Black History Month with a category featuring videos about the many Black movers and shakers in the vegan movement. Frankly, there are too many to mention. But, suffice it to say, that - according to numerous reports and surveys - African-Americans are going vegan at a higher rate than other demographic groups in the US! And, women are more likely than men to dropkick meat. So, today, we speak with 4 leading Black female voices in the vegan movement. Gwenna Hunter is the founder of Vegans of Los Angeles Food Bank. the first Vegan Food Bank in LA. Naijha Wright-Brown is the Executive Director of the Black Veg Society, a partner in The Land of Kush, VeganSoul Bistro, and co-creator of Vegan Soulfest and Maryland Vegan Restaurant Week. Jasmine Leyva directed and stars in The Invisible Vegan, a brilliant documentary about how veganism can reverse unhealthy dietary patterns in the African-American community. And, Brenda Sanders is the Executive Director of the Afro-Vegan Society, dedicated to helping minority communities transition to a plant-based lifestyle. UnchainedTV’s Jane Velez-Mitchell is the host for this compelling conversation.
