The Right to Rescue

This social justice movement is taking the world by storm. The Right to Rescue is premised on the concept that animals suffering in factory farms are in need of and deserving of rescue and that rescuing them is not illegal. The rescuers first investigate and report any evidence of animal abuse to local authorities, who generally ignore the complaints and fail to follow up on potential violations of animal cruelty laws, even when presented with videotaped evidence of it. After being repeatedly ignored, animal activists then openly enter the factory farms and rescue the animals, often doing so in large groups. That is called an Open Rescue. Sometimes, they are charged with theft. Sometimes they are prosecuted. But, as you will see in this video, some of them say they are willing to face prosecution, in the hopes that animals get their day in court. They have argued that animals are not mere property to be used and abused at whim. They are sentient beings who have inalienable rights to live a life free of cruelty, even when that cruelty is institutionalized, as it is in industrialized animal agriculture.
